Rail Canada!

In 1885 the Canadian Pacific Railway unified this nation with twin bands of steel. Ever since, travellers from around the world have been coming to Canada to see this vast country.
On a planet rife with jumbo jets and futuristic technology, when travel and interactions take place cursorily and instantaneously, rail travel has something extraordinary to offer the traveller. As the miles go by, passengers can feel that for which is lacking in our demanding modern lives: unhurried moments in time which encourage reflection and pleasant new experiences.
For over a century, discriminating travellers have discovered the best of Canada onboard our trains. The multiplicity and wild splendor of the Canadian landscape is encountered in every season: the rough Canadian West wrapped in winter's white mantle, the sophisticated urban centers of Ontario and Québec blooming with summer celebrations, the pictorial seascapes of the Atlantic regions clad in their autumn colours.
The second largest country in the world, Canada spans an enormous 9,984,670 square kilometres. But in spite of its magnitude, Canada has a population of only about 32 million people -- fewer than the 35 million people living in the state of California!
Without a doubt, the best way to see this country is by train.
Come north and enjoy restful travel, outstanding service and welcoming air aboard Canada's holiday trains. Close to nature but safe and serene, any time of the year. You can be a part of it all.
If you want to travel Canada by train, you have the Rocky Mountaineer, which travels between Vancouver and Banff, Calgary and Jasper, and VIA Rail which travels Canada Coast to Coast.
Rocky Mountaineer trains depart Vancouver for Banff or Calgary on Mondays & Fridays from the end of April to the beginning of October. Westbound trips Sundays &Thursdays. You can also choose to go from Vancouver to Jasper on Tuesdays & Fridays, reverse direction on Sundays & Thursdays. The Rocky Mountainer also travels to Jasper via Whistler on Mondays, with a reverse trip on Wednesdays.
Rocky Mountaineer's two-day train tours travel only during the day so none of the wonderful scenery is missed. These train rides last two days, with no travel during the night. The train stops for overnight in the city of Kamloops, midway along the route. The per person price of the tour includes meals and hotel lodging in Kamloops.
The following morning the train splits with half going to Jasper while the other half of the train continues to Banff and Calgary. As mentioned above, trains are also travelling west from Calgary, Banff and Jasper to Vancouver. Rocky Mountaineer guests, virtually without fail, deem their Rocky Mountaineer rail tour to be one of the most unforgettable travel experiences of a lifetime.
Our rail vacation packages blend these two-day train trips -- or four-days by rail circle trip -- with car rentals, coach tours, BC ferry trips, grizzly bear viewing, metropolitan sightseeing and hotel accommodations into more than 30 tours, varying in duration from 2 to 17 days.
Some best sellers include rail circles starting and finishing in Vancouver with stays at Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise and Calgary. You can walk around, cast-a-line for fish, go hiking, golf, raft rivers, unwind and go sightseeing.
CanadaRail.ca also combines Rocky Mountaineer with VIA Rail trains to proffer a twelve-day Trans Canada Train Adventure between Vancouver and Toronto or a sixteen-day journey between Vancouver and Halifax, Nova Scotia on the eastcoast. If you've always dreamed of going on a Trans-Canada train trip, we can help you make it happen. Give us a call or drop us an

VIA Rail operates over 460 trains every week all year on 14,000-kilometres of tracks, connecting more than 450 Canadian destinations. Four million passengers travel on the VIA Rail trains. CN and CP handle rail freight in Canada. The Royal Canadian Pacific is another luxury train tour option in the Rockies.. please feel free to ask us for details, we'd love to hear from you!
Contrasting with the Rocky Mountaineer trains, VIA Rail trains do not stop at night. VIA Rail's timeless trains have several kinds of sleeping accommodations, panorama observation domes, lounges and an art-deco style dining car (1930s chic that uses geometrical patterns and bold colours and shapes). The sleeping accommodations on the train include comfortable upper and lower berths and one, two and three bed sleeping compartments. Meals are included with your sleeping accommodations on The Canadian, the transcontinental train going between Vancouver and Toronto.
Favorites include the seventeen-hour jaunt connecting Vancouver and Jasper, a three-day expedition between Vancouver and Toronto, four day trip between Vancouver and Montreal, and a five-day eighteen hour trip between Vancouver and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Or the 1700 kilometre, two-day tour linking Jasper and Prince Rupert, also on the west coast but nearly 600 miles north of Vancouver. From Prince Rupert you go north up the Inland Passage to Alaska or take a BC Ferry south to Port Hardy on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island. And once you are on Vancouver Island, you are only a day by bus from Victoria, B.C. at the southern end of the island. (B.C.'s charming capital city) Check out our Totem Rail Explorer!
