A Light in The Dark

In high school I was very fortunate to have a large friend group that always stuck together. Even as we grew older, with many attending different universities, we always reunited when we were home. As I matured, I realized that only a few were the same as when I first met them. Some friends I knew I could open up with, but one in particular would always be there. No matter what the circumstance, he was there for anything, no questions asked, without judgment. He was a genuinely good person and an extremely good friend. Those two characteristics are hard to come by in this life and can be easily taken for granted.

Billy Joel's famous hit song, "Only The Good Die Young," became vivid after I received tragic news that brisk spring morning in April. Death is inevitable and we hear that all the time. Unfortunately though, when it hits close to home, it showers us with a range of emotion that even the strongest person can't ignore.
Today marks exactly a year and a half since my friend passed away from an overdose. Here is what I've learned thus far...

In these passing months, I am proud to say that I am not in that dark place anymore. Does it mean that I still don't miss my friend? Of course not! There will always be a crater where he once stood for the love of my friends. Experiencing a death of a beloved friend or a loved one is one of the most painful tragedies in this human experience. The positive memories will stay close to your heart, while the negative memories remain congested in your brain, making the grieving process much more difficult to navigate.
Feeling alone with no direction can really spiral a person into feelings that aren't wanted and sometimes uncontrollable. I felt that I was responsible for all that had happened and it haunted me for many nights. I realized then that I could not let my fears take control and it was time to accept what had happened and to stop fighting.

Every night I would pray that I would find a positive reason to wake up each morning, hoping for a light on this dark road. After understanding and accepting that my friend had lost hope in his self, only then I realized he would not want me to mourn his passing. Life is too sacred and only you have the power to move forward, even when the hardest obstacles come your way.
Learning to understand that only I have the power to turn my sadness into gratification was a large lesson for the future and should be shared to others. You should never feel ashamed of your story, for that it will inspire others. There is a light somewhere in your dark tunnel, I promise. I hope reading this makes you determined to find it.

Change Your Life - If you are afraid

According to one online dictionary, ‘life‘ is defined as:
The condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.

I particularly like the last sentence; “…the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.
So simply put, living is about finding ways internally to deal with our external circumstances. But how many of us aren’t really living, but merely surviving? Do you find yourself waiting for things to change to make your life better – your partner, the economy, your job? Or do you make things change by first deciding to, then taking action to make it happen?

I’m certainly guilty of waiting around for things to turn to my favour. I used to do that a lot – it didn’t get me anywhere. To be honest I still do it to some degree now, until I catch myself doing it and decide to grab life by the scruff of the neck and do something different.

What I do isn’t as important as my intention to make a change. As long as I’m doing ‘something‘ to make a positive difference to my life. Sometimes I make a mistake. Sometimes what I do can make things worse for a while. But I know with enough positive intention eventually I’ll make changes in my life that actually make my life more rewarding.

So if you’re waiting for something BIG to happen in your life, STOP. Get your thinking cap on and figure out just one thing that you can do to get the ball moving in a different direction.

Superb interview between Marie Forleo and author Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love).
If you ever wanted to quit it all and throw yourself into that book project but were too afraid. Or you wanted to risk it all to start that business idea, but were worried you might lose it all.
Elizabeth Gilbert saying it how it is and sounding like a breath of fresh air against all the ‘gurus’ who advocate “just follow your passion“.

3 Strategies for Hacking Happiness

Wealth, status, fitness, relationships – for most people, these markers are accomplished in pursuit of the ultimate goal: Happiness.

Collecting these achievements makes sense – who wouldn't be happier with more money, a higher-profile job, better defined abs or a stronger marriage? But research has shown, somewhat counterintuitively, that major positive changes in life circumstances don't necessarily translate to similarly significant upticks in well-being. (Two studies, one pertaining to newlyweds and the other to high-level managers who voluntarily changed jobs, illustrate this human tendency to quickly adjust to improvements, a process known as hedonic adaptation.)
If boosting one's life circumstances isn't necessarily the secret to boosting one's happiness, then what is? Or is happiness, as with so many things, simply the result of a genetic lottery?
Sonja Lyubomirsky is a psychology professor at the University of California-Riverside and she's spent the majority of her career studying happiness. She's come to believe that in many ways, happiness is a skill.  “Research has accumulated to convincingly suggest that a large portion of happiness may be under people’s control through the activities they choose and how they construe and respond to situations in their lives,” she and postdoctural researcher Kristin Layous wrote in Positive Emotion (Oxford University Press, 2014).

Here are three cognitive and behavioral strategies she says have been found to “reliably improve happiness.”

1. Remember: Life is short.

Contemplating mortality may seem like a backwards way of finding happiness, but a recent study co-authored by Lyubomirsky and currently in review suggests this may indeed be an effective strategy.
In the actual study, participants were either instructed to live the following month as if it was their last (in their current city) or to just keep track of their daily activities. Those in the first group reported higher levels of well-being at weekly check-ins during the four week trial, as well two weeks after the trial was completed. What's more, their well-being increased over time and, the authors write, "mediation analyses indicated that these differences were explained by greater connectedness, competence, and autonomy."
It's easier to appreciate something (be it a meal, a vacation or a city) when it is finite; when a resource is limited, its value increases. By imagining time as scarce, the authors speculate, we can jolt ourselves into refusing to take the positives for granted, to "seize the moment and extract greater well-being" from our lives. It's a subtle, but important, variation on the cliché 'live every day like it's your last' (which, taken literally, would be ridiculous). Instead, it's about recognizing that the good times won't last forever – and appreciating them all the more because of it.

2. Shake it up.

As mentioned earlier, it's surprisingly easy to adapt to a positive life event, be it marriage, a promotion or weight loss. As Lyubomirsky writes in her book, "even the most beautiful or noteworthy events are susceptible to the process of hedonic adaptation, whereby they lose their emotional impact over time and through repeated exposure."
Previous research suggests variety helps combat this effect: College students report being less able to adapt to dynamic life changes, such as making a new friend or learning a new skill) than static ones (such as upgrading dorm rooms or receiving more financial aid).

Whenever possible, infuse variety into your life. This can mean finding a wider sample of enjoyable activities, as well as taking a break from certain ones altogether (which interrupts the cycle of adaption, enabling a renewed sense of pleasure when the break is over). Both strategies slow the process of adaption by creating a perpetual sense of newness.

3. Focus on others.

When it comes to happiness, effort isn't always enough. In fact, high-levels of self-monitoring and self-focus have been associated with lower levels of well-being.
Which is why, as circular as the following statement sounds, actively working to increase the happiness of people close to you may be the best strategy to increase your own happiness.
In a soon-to-be-released study co-authored by Lyubomirsky, participants were split into two groups; those in the first group were asked to actively try and make someone in their lives happy for four weeks, while those in the second were simply asked to track their daily activities.
"People who took steps to make a friend, family member, or roommate happy reported increases in happiness compared to those who simply kept track of their daily activities, thus supporting our contention that focusing on the well-being of others is good for mental health," the authors wrote. "Thus, focusing on a close relationship helps people obtain greater fulfillment out of their daily lives and feel more grateful for what they have."

How to enlarge Penis (Real Tips)

The internet is awash with websites selling everything from pills to penis extenders that claim to increase the length and girth of your manhood. But do these treatments work?

Men's anxiety about penis size has spawned a multi-million-pound global industry in clinically unproven "male enhancement products".
While many men worry their penis is too small, research shows that most men's penises are normal and they needn't be concerned. Professor Kevan Wylie, a sexual medicine consultant, says men with concerns about their penis size should consider talking to a health professional before experimenting with treatments, which are mostly ineffective, expensive and potentially harmful.
"Many men who worry about the size of their penis generally have overall body image issues," he says. "What happens is that they tend to focus their poor body image on their penis.
"Often, counselling can make a real difference to the patient by building self-esteem, correcting distorted views about body image and learning more about what makes people attractive."
While you can't do much to safely enlarge your penis, men can do several things to make them feel more confident about their body.
  • trim your pubic hair – a big mound of pubic hair can make your penis look smaller than it is
  • lose weight – a beer belly hanging over your penis can make your penis look smaller
  • get fit – getting into shape will not only make you feel more attractive, it could improve your sex life
Professor Wylie assesses the evidence, effectiveness and safety of different types of penis enlargement products and treatments on the market.

Non-surgical treatments

Pills and lotions

These products usually contain vitamins, minerals, herbs or hormones that claim to enlarge the penis. Despite their impressive claims, there's absolutely no clinical evidence that these products work and some may even be harmful. The University of Maryland in the US carried out an analysis on some of these and found traces of lead, pesticides, E. coli bacteria and animal faeces.
"They're a complete waste of time," says Professor Wylie. "Pills and lotions have no proven benefit. If they were effective, they would be on sale at chemists. Using a lotion may help a man become more familiar with his penis, which some men shy away from. So lotions can help a man become more comfortable with his penis but they certainly won't make it any bigger."

Vacuum devices

Penis pumps involve placing a tube over the penis and then pumping out the air to create a vacuum. The vacuum draws blood into the penis and makes it swell. Vacuum devices are sometimes used in the short-term treatment of impotence. But overusing a penis pump can damage the tissue of the penis, leading to weaker erections.
"There is very little evidence that these devices cause any significant long-term gain in size," says Professor Wylie. "Using a pump for a few minutes a day won't do anything to increase penis size."

Penile extenders

This technique involves placing a weight or a small extending frame, sometimes called a traction device, on the flaccid penis to stretch it. Professor Wylie says there is no clinical evidence that using weights will extend the penis, and they may cause permanent damage to the penis. However, better results have been reported with traction devices.
"There is some evidence that traction devices can have some impact, particularly with men who are smaller in size," he says. "Some patients using traction devices for six months have noticed a gain in size of 1-2cm. However, such treatments should not be started without the supervision of a doctor."

Jelqing

Jelqing is an exercise involving repeatedly pulling the flaccid penis using the thumb and index finger, with the aim of increasing erection size. The idea is that the pulling exercises will increase the blood capacity of the penis' erectile tissue, allegedly resulting in increased length and girth of the penis.
"Just like using lotions, this technique can help some men better appreciate the considerable difference in size between a flaccid penis and an erect one, which helps them become more comfortable with their body," says Professor Wylie. "But there is no scientific evidence to suggest jelqing can increase penis size."

Penis surgery

Penis girth surgery

Some surgical techniques to increase penis girth involve injecting fat taken from another part of the body into the penis. Some studies have reported increases in circumference of 1.4-4cm. However, studies that followed men up over a longer time suggest disappointing results, with complications including disfigurement, scarring, lumpiness and infection. Another method, still in its experimental stage, involves pulling back the skin of the penis to wrap a tube-like biodegradable frame filled with tissue cells around the shaft.
Professor Wylie says the use of biodegradable frames has had better results than fat injection. "The problem with injecting fat is that over time, the body will re-absorb the fat which can result in a return to the penis' original size," he says.

Penis length surgery

The most common technique involves cutting the ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone and performing a skin graft at the base of the penis to allow for the extra length. Professor Wylie says the surgery can result in an average gain in length to the flaccid penis of 2cm, but there will be no change to the size of the erect penis. Furthermore, the erect penis won't point as high as before the operation because the ligament which was cut no longer offers support.
"A lot of men who have this treatment don't truly appreciate this loss of angle," says Professor Wylie. "It can make sex quite uncomfortable. You've got to do a lot more manoeuvring with your partner. The advantage of a 2cm gain in flaccid length is far outweighed by the loss of angle of erection."
As penis enlargement surgery is for cosmetic purposes, it's unlikely to be available on the NHS.

Liposuction

For men with a large gut, liposuction, a surgical procedure to remove fat below the abdomen, can make their penis look larger. Removing excess fat around the pubic area can make a partly buried penis appear more prominent.
Professor Wylie says the cosmetic results are generally considered reasonable by patients. "Liposuction can result in a 2cm gain in length in the short-term, but the fat will return to the pubic area if the patient puts on weight again," he says.

25 Questions To Ask People To Draw Them Out

As a personal coach, I use pointed and thoughtful questions to help my clients gain more clarity about themselves and to help me better understand my clients and their goals.
I generally ask open-ended questions that can’t be answered with a simple “yes” or “no” so that the client is encouraged to dig deeper and uncover answers they may not have realized previously. Often after I ask a question, a client will say, “I’ve never thought about that before.” Once they ponder the question and their feelings about it, it can lead to a profound insight or an “ah ha” moment.
Even in social or casual settings, asking the right questions can stimulate deeper and more interesting discourse. It can set the stage for discovering common interests, developing a more authentic connection, and fostering mutual empathy and understanding.
There is an art to asking good questions. No one wants to feel as though they’re in a job interview or being grilled for information. A big part of asking questions is listening mindfully to the reply in order to hear beyond the words spoken.
Mindful listening requires watching body language, hearing tone of voice, and being sensitive to what is left unspoken. It also requires asking thoughtful follow-up questions or making reflective or supportive statements. By learning to ask good questions and taking the time and interest to listen mindfully, you are setting the stage for more intimate, fulfilling, and enjoyable relationships.

Here are 25 questions to ask people to draw them out . . .

1. What is your best childhood memory?

This question always makes people smile and often leads to a humorous or poignant exchange about family, travel, holidays and traditions, hopes and dreams, and friendship. You learn a lot about someone when they share aspects of their childhood.

2. If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently?

This question gives insight into a person’s state of mind about who they are, their vulnerabilities, and their hopes and dreams. Often sharing regrets or unmet desires opens doors to considering new possibilities or the confidence to make needed change.

3. How did the two of you meet?

This is a great question to ask a couple. Quite often sharing the story of how they met draws them together in a mutual happy memory. It gives them a reason to reconnect and allows you to learn more about their past and how they interact together as a couple.

4. What do you feel most proud of?

This question makes people feel you are really interested in them and who they are. Everyone wants to feel accomplished and proud, and we all want an opportunity to share our successes without looking like a braggart. The answers give you great insight into what the person values most in life.

5. What is your favorite music?

The music we enjoy helps define us and reflects the dreams and attitudes of our generation. What we listen to reflects what speaks to our souls. It reveals who we are and what we believe — in an illuminating and honest way that’s often hard to put into words.

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

This question not only allows you to discuss and share travel experiences, but also it affords insights into the other person’s interests, personality, and sense of adventure.

7. If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

This question really makes people think. We are so attached to our possessions, but truthfully there are only a few that matter deeply to us. When people are forced to define those few, it gives insight into what they value most.

8. What teacher in school made the most impact on you and why?

Teachers can play a pivotal role in helping us develop a love of learning, discover our life passions, and draw out our innate skills. Sometimes they are people who inspire us or who simply believe in us and want the best for us.

9. What do you want your tombstone to say?

Although this is a morbid question, it does go right to the heart of what we want for ourselves. At the end of our lives, how do we want to be remembered and what legacy do we want to leave?

10. What was one of your most defining moments in life?

This is a great question to invite sharing on a deeper and more vulnerable level. Often defining moments come during profound life transitions like death, divorce, job loss, etc. It is during these times we are called to make a huge mental, physical, or emotional shift.

11. Why did you choose that profession?

The story of how someone landed in a particular profession opens the door to learning a lot about a person and their motivations, interests, education, and ambitions. We spend most of our days working, so the answer to this question also reveals how a person chooses to define their lives.

12. How do you spend your free time?

This is a great follow-up question to the previous question. It rounds out the picture of how this person has created his or her life and what hobbies, interests, and obligations they have created for themselves.

13. If you won the lottery, what would you do?

This is a fun question that reveals so much about a person and their attitudes about money, work, and life passion. Would they leave their job? Buy their dream home? Do something altruistic? Would they be happy about having a lot of money or want to avoid it?

14. Who do you most admire in life?

This is a great question to learn more about the kind of person someone wants to emulate. We admire people whose actions and character reflect what we want in ourselves. This will tell you a lot about the true character of a person.

15. What are your top three favorite books and why?

Sharing favorite books opens the door for interesting conversation and finding common ground between you. It gives you and the other person a chance to learn something new and potentially to understand a new perspective or interest you haven’t pursued.

16. What are you most afraid of?

This is a very probing and enlightening question. Everyone has fears, and our fears reveal our vulnerabilities and pain. When someone shares this with you, you must respond with care, kindness, and trustworthiness. You must treat their fears with dignity so they feel safe connecting with you on this more intimate level.

17. What feels like love to you?

Everyone has their own “love language” — the words, behaviors, and attitudes that make them feel loved and that reveal how they express love. This is a great question to ask your spouse, romantic partner, or a potential romantic partner.

18. What is your strongest personal quality?

Most people feel uncomfortable with this question at first because they want to appear modest. But truly we all want to feel validated about our positive  qualities and have others recognize this about us. People will usually follow up by asking this question of you, and it creates a positive feeling and bond between you.

What is your

19. What was your most embarrassing moment?

This is a fun question that can lead to laughter and connection. Most people enjoy telling funny stories about themselves if there isn’t shame or guilt involved. Occasionally someone will reveal something painful or shameful, and this is the time to show empathy and caring.

20. If you were president, what is the first thing you would do?

You can learn a lot about someone’s political beliefs, ideals, worries, and values when you ask this question. If you want to connect and invite open discussion, just be sure you don’t challenge or put down the response you get if it happens to be different from what you would do.

21. What age do you feel right now and why?

Ask this question of someone over 50, and you’ll get some interesting responses. As we get older, most people don’t “feel” their chronological age. It’s enlightening to learn how people perceive themselves internally even though externally they may be at a completely different stage of life.

22. If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?

This is a fascinating question that invites interesting discussion. You can learn about someone’s interests and goals, and perhaps you’ll be inspired to delve into a new interest yourself.

23. What is a skill you’d like to learn and why?

Most of us have something we want to learn to improve ourselves or for simple enjoyment. This question gives the person the opportunity not only to share that desire, but also to examine why they haven’t pursued learning the skill.

24. What does a perfect day look like to you?

Thinking about this question requires us to dig around in our memories for previous perfect days. It’s a feel good question that gives both people an infusion of happiness and maybe even the desire to recreate that perfect day.

25. How would your friends describe you?

This question allows the other person to talk about themselves from an outside perspective. It invites self-awareness and self-honesty and opens the door to more authentic conversation.

Hearts and flowers

Flowers are a perfect last-minute gift for Valentine's Day. They're not only traditional, they're also widely available. Let me count the ways

Buy your beloved a book of love poems at the nearest bookstore. It doesn't really matter whether you choose Shakespearean sonnets, love poems by Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet, or a volume of modern verse. A book of love poems can transform your last-minute purchase into a gift of timeless beauty.

No reservations? No problem

What could be better than a romantic dinner on Valentine's Day? But getting last-minute reservations may be nearly impossible. Rather than settle for something less than perfect, make your own romance with a picnic featuring food from your favorite deli or gourmet shop. If the February weather is too wet or cold where you live, find an indoor alternative: a car parked at a favorite overlook; your high-rise office with a glittering view of the city lights; the cabin of a borrowed boat or RV; or a blanket at home in front of the fire.

Try a little bling

As a Valentine's Day gift, jewelry is a time-tested classic, and you can often find last-minute deals on a wide range of great pieces. A beautiful pendant or earrings for her; a handsome bracelet or watch for him. Whatever you choose, jewelry is a Valentine's Day gift that is sure to please.

Smile for the camera

Use your video camera to record an intimate message that will leave no doubt about the depth and intensity of your love. It's a last-minute gift that your beloved can keep and treasure -- and replay again and again.

Frame it

If a picture is worth a thousand words, why not send your beloved an eloquent Valentine's Day message with a framed photo that declares your love? Whether you choose an image of the two of you or one that evokes a memory you share, the right photo will make your Valentine's Day picture perfect.

Start a love journal

Buy a nicely bound journal and write on the first page, sharing just one of the many things you appreciate about the man or woman of your dreams. Make this year's Valentine's Day gift the journal and that first romantic page. Then pledge to write a new entry each day of the coming year, and give your beloved the
completed journal on Valentine's Day next year.

Get a room

You don't have to fly to Paris to have a romantic evening. Call around to local hotels and book a last-minute room for two. February is the off-season for travel in most places, so you should have no problem finding a boudoir for the night that will fit both your budget and your mood.

Say it with ink

Be spontaneous! Make a permanent declaration of love with matching tattoos. Actually, they don't have to match. You can each get a tattoo that has meaning not only for you but also for the person you love, and together make a statement that time can't erase.

Why do men want sex in the morning?

Why do men want sex in the morning while women get frisky at night? Mystery solved

Why is it that a man feels at his sexiest when he wakes up in the morning but a woman wants to go back to sleep? And why, late at night, when a woman is in the mood for love, is her man just lying there, snoring? It all comes down to hormones. Here's why our sex clocks don't always tick in time.

5 AM
Even before a man wakes up, his testosterone levels are at their peak -between 25-50 per cent more than at any other time of the day. That's because the pituitary gland -which governs the production of the male sex hormone -has been switched on in the night and levels have been steadily rising until dawn.
Women also make testosterone -the main sex drive hormone -but produce a fraction of the amount and it rises by only a tiny bit overnight. It is also kept in balance by oestrogen and progesterone. Men need only a normal amount of testosterone to feel like having sex. The raised levels in the morning means most men will wake up two to three times a week with erections.

6 AM
Slept well? A good kip is another reason a man may feel even more amorous in the morning. Studies have found that the longer and deeper a man has slept, the higher his testosterone levels. Research in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows getting more than five hours' sleep can raise male levels by an extra 15 per cent.

7 AM
While a man's levels of sex hormones are at their highest when he wakes up, a woman's are at their lowest. Male and female testosterone levels are at their highest at opposite ends of the day, so they are out of sync, says consultant gynaecologist Gabrielle Downey, of the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

Downey says it takes more than hormones to get a woman in the mood, so men need to make an active effort."

Women's hormones rise and fall more over their monthly cycle than through the course of a day. At their height -midway through her cycle -a woman's levels of testosterone will be 30 times higher than at the start.

8 AM
As both sexes get ready for the day, levels of the stress hormone cortisol rise to help them wake up -and dampen the effect of sex hormones. Cortisol, studies show, lowers the sex drive of both men and women.

As the day goes on, men steadily make testosterone. The hormone is needed to trigger muscle growth and sperm production. Levels will fall and rise every 90 minutes through the day as part of the body's in-built clock.

12 Noon
An attractive colleague wanders into the workplace. But it's his nervous system and not his hormones that kick into action.

The sight of someone attractive immediately releases feel-good brain neurotransmitters called endorphins -and triggers blood flow to a man's genitals. Sex hormones take longer to increase. However, when confronted with a sexy person, a man who already has higher testosterone levels is likely to be more flirtatious. Men with more testosterone are also more likely to be found attractive by women, according to researchers at Wayne State University in Michigan, US.

1 PM
Women who catch a glimpse of a hunk at lunchtime, are less likely to be aroused than if a male colleague sees someone he fancies. Instead, studies have found that a woman's testosterone levels are more likely to be boosted by the anticipation of sex with her own partner.

In one study by the University of Texas, women in long-distance relationships gave five saliva samples. The tests were given two weeks before they saw their partners, the day before, before sex, the day after sex and three days after the pair were separated. The women's testosterone levels hit their peak the day before they were due to see their partners again.

6 PM
As evening approaches, men's levels of testosterone start to fall while women's sex hormones gradually rise.

Studies have shown, that an after-work gym session can boost the libido of both genders. Research by scientists at the University of California, San Diego, found men who exercised had a boosted libido.

They also reported having 30 per cent more sex and 26 per cent more orgasms. A University of Texas study showed that women who had 20 minutes of cardio were more aroused by seeing an erotic film than those who had not exercised.

7 PM
When it's time to unwind after a stressful day, even putting on music can affect sex hormone levels. A Japanese study by Nara University found that music boosted testosterone levels "significantly" in women but had the opposite effect in men.

Researchers believe the reason is that music may make women feel more relaxed, bonded and in turn more sexual, while in men it calms their aggression and in turn reduces their levels of testosterone.

8 PM
If an important match is on TV, the results can also affect a man's testosterone. According to a study of saliva tests by the University of Utah, sports fans watching a World Cup game boosted hormone levels by about 20 per cent if their team won.
After a loss in a big game, there was a 20 per cent drop in levels.

By contrast, women are more likely to be affected by actually playing sport rather than watching it.

9 PM
By now, a man's testosterone level is dropping to the day's lowest level, while a woman's is heading towards its highest point. But, sexual desire in women is not a simple story.

Downey says, the greatest factor influencing sex drive is body image. If a woman sees herself as unattractive, she is much less likely to want to have sex. Which is why, women with polycystic ovaries, who have increased levels of testosterone, don't have increased libido. They often see themselves as overweight and not attractive -and that feeling over rides their heightened sex hormones.

10 PM
Even though men's testosterone levels are now at their lowest, they are still more likely to have sex in the evening as men's levels are still running higher than a woman's, says Downey. She adds that once they are making love, if a woman's testosterone levels are peaking because of where she is during her cycle -around the 13th day -her orgasms are more intense and they will be felt all over the body.

When the levels are lower, her climaxes are less intense and centred mainly around the sexual organs.

Don't get all crazy!

The vibrator was originally invented in the 19th century as a way to reduce "hysteria." That seems a little extreme. However, we do not recommend testing that theory by taking away a woman's vibrator to see if she goes into a hysterical fit. That's just dangerous.

Swarms of swimmers

Your average healthy man produces approximately 300 million sperm in just a teaspoon of his semen. However, it only takes one little swimmer to fertilize a woman’s egg.

According to a study published in the Journal of Sex Research, a person's pain threshold significantly increases during arousal.

Take a load off!

According to a study from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, the amygdala — the part of the brain involved in fear and anxiety — shuts down during a female orgasm. So that brain mush you experience during sex is legit!

10 Signs That You're Ready for Sex

Losing your virginity is a personal choice, and it's your choice alone. Not even your sweetie can make up your mind about whether or not you're ready for sex.   Still, it's not a decision to be made lightly. To help out, here are 10 things that should be true before you have sex for the first time.  If you answer "no" to even one of these, you should hold off till you're really ready.

1. You Know All the Risks

Pregnancy is the risk you might think of first, but there's a whole slew of ugly diseases that sex puts you at risk for. Take the STD quiz and see if you know all there is to know.

2. You Know How to Prevent Those Risks

Pop quiz: what's the best tool for preventing STDs and pregnancy? Are you afraid to talk to your sweetie about the L-word? (You know – lube?) Before you do anything, make sure you read these tips about safe sex.

3. You've Got a Plan If You or Your Sweetie Gets Pregnant

Even if you take every precaution, you can still get pregnant. (Condoms are only effective 85% of the time, after all.) If you're not ready to deal with having a baby or an abortion, then you're not ready for sex.

4. You're Being Legal

Check the age of consent chart to make sure that you and your partner can legally have sex in your state. If you can't do it legally, then don't. The law is there for a reason: to protect you and your partner from what might end up to be a bad idea, emotionally and mentally.

5. You're Both Sober

Drinking impairs your judgment, making you more likely to do something you'll regret the next day. If you're drunk, you're also less likely to use a condom, or to use it the right way.

6. You Trust Your Partner

When you're in a position where someone can have sex with you, you're totally vulnerable. If you have any doubts about how your sweetie will treat you during sex - and the next day, and the day after that - trust your gut and get away from them now.

7. You're Prepared to Have a Terrible Time

The first time you have sex, it might not be romantic, or fun, or even that sexy. In fact, it might be awkward and painful. Here's some more about what to expect for your first time.

8. You're OK With Having Your Partner in Your Life Forever

This doesn't mean you're not allowed to break up. But if something happens - like a pregnancy or an STD - you might have to be in each other's lives a lot longer than you planned.

9. You're Doing It For YOU

You should only have sex if you really want to have sex. Not because your partner wants to have sex. Not because everyone at your school has already had sex. (Some of them are lying. Trust me.)

10. You Know That You Can Still Say "No"

You can say it any time before you have sex - even the second before it - no matter what you've said in the past. It's your body, and you alone are in charge of what happens to it.

How to lose weight (Easy Ways)

More than one-third of adults in the United States are obese. In fact, the furor over obesity, which some have termed an “epidemic,” has reached such proportions that one big-city mayor has gone about banning large-sized, sugary soft drinks and the First Lady has been on a crusade to control the dietary offerings in public schools.
Even many adults who do not fit the clinic definition of obese are still overweight, and a large percentage are looking for the best ways to lose weight.

Shedding pounds largely comes down to the two-pronged factors of diet and exercise. Not modifying the first one enough, and not getting enough of the second one, ends up giving the individual a recipe for being overweight.
Conditions related to obesity include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Counseling someone to eat less and exercise more might be the simplest advice possible, but it’s also, partially, an oversimplification. When it comes to diet, no one needs to starve themselves in order to lose weight. It has more to do with the types of food you eat than how much you eat.

Reduce the amount of red meat in your diet. If you don’t want to eliminate red meat altogether, choose cuts of meat with less fat content. Limit your intake of salt and starches. If you’ve got to have potato chips alongside your sandwich at lunch, opt for the baked potato chips that are less greasy and contain less fat than the deep-fried chips. You might find you’re really not sacrificing that much in terms of taste.

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, egg whites, skinless poultry, fish and nonfat dairy products will certainly aid in the mission of losing weight. Drink more water and less sugary drinks. If you have to have a soda, a diet soda is a better option, but seltzer is an even better choice than that.

In terms of exercise, it’s important—if not always easy—to make sure you get at least some physical activity each and every day. Cardio and strength training burn lots of calories. If your feet or your stamina level won’t allow for a regular jogging regimen, then make sure you take lots of walks. Next time you need to mail a letter, walk to the mailbox instead of driving. Try to work in a daily walk in your neighborhood. And if you intend on more rigorous, formal exercising at the gym or fitness center, be sure to pace yourself and don’t build up to an overly ambitious workout agenda too quickly.

There are thousands of diet fads among us.  However, sometimes the best advice is common sense.  Work towards a healthy diet and integrate regular exercise.  You would be surprised at the results small changes can make.

Child marriage up (STOP it)

An ICDDR,B study that explored the nature of early marriages and tried to understand the role of the community, revealed that people do not see any “visible” benefit in delaying marriage.

Young girls who suffered due to early marriage are the only ones aware of the pitfalls.

Early marriage that robs a girl’s physical, psychological and social development leads to early pregnancy, resulting in complications and deaths.

According to law, 18 is the minimum marriageable age for a girl in Bangladesh. The country ratified the UN convention on child rights, meaning until 18 everyone is child.

But Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) found two-thirds of women were married off before 18.

“It’s (early marriage) a complex social issue,” Dr Quamrun Nahar, an ICDDR,B associate scientist said while presenting the study results on Monday.

“Community does not see any visible benefit in delaying marriage especially when the risk of keeping girls at home outweighs the benefit,” she said.

The study found social insecurity like sexual harassment, poverty, dowry, fear of breaking social norms, and pressure from others were the reasons behind early marriage.

USAID funded the study.

It deputy director (health) in Dhaka Gregory Adams says this was to generate data to address the root cause of child marriage.

The qualitative study was carried out in four villages in four corners of Bangladesh as researchers say marriage age has regional variations. The reasons of early marriage also differ.

For examples, in north-eastern Habiganj it was found “very difficult” to resist a marriage proposal from immigrants, but in south-western Jessore parents’ fear of girls falling in love and its consequences like suicide led them to marry off girls early.

Coxs Bazar large family size and religious belief play the role while in northern Kurigram poverty and limited employment opportunities for girls’ are mainly responsible for early marriage.

The study also tried to identify the roles of individuals, family, local authorities, law enforcing agencies, marriage registrars, and religious leaders in preventing early marriage and revealed a dismal picture.

The community perceived that as an individual or family they have ‘little role’ to play in preventing early marriage in the neighbourhood.

solutionsbd.blogspot.com
They identified some key local actors who have major role in preventing early marriage like local political leaders, marriage registrars and religious leaders like Imam.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), police, lawyer, marriage registrar, union parishad chairman, upazilla member and imam (Muslim religious leader) were interviewed in the study that also reviewed different documents like marriage register and birth certificates.

But it is the parents who take the decision about their marriage, girls told the researchers. “We obey our parents”.

But a few of them “sounded confident” that they would be able to convince their parents to delay marriage.

“If not they would ask help from local authority,” the associate scientist Dr Nahar said.

But parents asked the researchers why they would wait?

“My neighbour’s daughter is about the same age. She got married and is happy in her conjugal life” was one of the explanations parents gave to the researchers.

The government in 2011 introduced a rule to verify age through birth certificate before registering a marriage.

Upazilla chairman issues the certificate, but sometimes even marriage registrar doubts the age mentioned in the certificate.

As an individual, it was revealed that, people said they had “little to do’ to stop early marriage.

But they said local leaders, administrators, and law-enforcing agencies can play a role in stopping early marriage.

The government has also introduced a helpline 10921.

Secretary at the women affairs ministry Tariq-ul-Islam said they had introduced a helpline ‘10921’ in which they receive call.

But when they try to prevent a marriage, the parents ask, “then what?”

“Would you stop harassment, what about the financial support for her education,” he said, adding that the government was keen to solve the problem.

He said the government offers stipend for girls’ secondary level education so that they stay in schools and acknowledged that more need to be done.

ICDDR,B’s director for the Centre for Population, Urbanisation and Climate Change Dr Peter Kim Streatfield said Bangladesh has long been known for early marriage.

“Only some West African countries (Niger, Mali, Chad) report earlier female age at marriage than Bangladesh,” he said.

The research suggested raising awareness about the benefits of delaying marriage so that people understand the ill effects of early marriage.

Social security enhancement has been suggested along with empowering girls to tackle the menace.

Shocking Sex Facts of Life

What do you really know about sex? What do you really know about orgasms, length, longevity and masturbation? Here are 21 sex facts that will absolutely blow your mind.

These were revolutionary ideas the time, but new research about women and sex has revealed some facts that would shock even Masters and Johnson. Here’s the latest on sex research from Dr. Eden Fromberg of SoHo OBGYN and Naomi Wolf’s most recent book, Vagina: A New Biography.
1. Cycles of light affect our fertility
Women used to menstruate during the new moon (when it’s dark at night) and ovulate during a full moon (when it’s light). Now, in a world full of artificial lighting and bright screens, women are not as in tune with the connection between their biology and nature. Some have tried “lunaception,” altering the lights in their bedrooms based on the moon lighting to change their ovulation.
2. Women can get pregnant five to eight days after having sex
Studies have shown that some sperm can live in the cervical mucus crypt before the egg is actually fertilized for anywhere from five to eight days after sex.
3. Wearing high heels can negatively affect a woman’s orgasm
Certain high-end shoe brands developed the arch in their high-heeled shoes to approximate the arch in a woman’s pelvis when she is having an orgasm. The heels create a contraction in the pelvic floor, which is problematic because the pelvic floor then cannot contract further during orgasm. “An orgasm is usually like going from zero to 60,” explains Fromberg. “If you’re already at 55 [from wearing heels], you’re not going to have a full experience.”
4. Orgasms can make women more creative
Studies have shown that orgasms can make women more confident, productive and creative. And it’s a feedback loop—women achieve fuller orgasms when they are being creative.
5. Birth control pills dampen the libido
Any hormonal contraception has that psychological side effect. Sometimes women even have trouble conceiving once they’re off the pill because while they may have been attracted to their partner on the pill, they’re not actually compatible with each other biochemically without the extra hormones.
6.  Sitting in chairs can arouse women
Pudendal nerves, underneath the buttox and the sitting bones, feed arousal tissues (in the vagina, clitoris, anus, etc.). Sitting in a certain kind of chair pressing on the pudendal nerves in a certain way can lead to sexual arousal.
7. …But it can also dampen their orgasms
On the other hand, sitting in chairs for most of the day shortens the pelvic floor and psoas muscles—muscles which are essential to a full-body orgasm. When these muscles are tight from sitting too much, women find it harder to achieve a great orgasm.
8. Women have three erogenous zones
The clitoris, the G Spot, AND the opening of the cervix. Some argue nipples belong on that list too.
9. Nerve endings are distributed differently in every woman’s vagina
Like a snowflake, each woman is unique in that her nerve endings are distributed in her genitalia differently than anyone else. That means, every woman needs to employ slightly different methods to achieve orgasm.
10. The pulsations a woman feels during orgasm are actually her uterus trying to gather sperm
Round ligaments that end in the labia majora “rock the uterus back and forth during orgasm so that the cervix has the opportunity to potentially scoop semen up that may have pooled in the back of the vagina to enhance fertility,” says Fromberg.
11. Being well hydrated leads to better orgasms
Because the body is mostly fluid, being hydrated enhances people’s ability to achieve orgasm.
12. All woman can achieve orgasm
Almost no woman was born unable to achieve an orgasm. “Women have the innate machinery programmed to have orgasms,” Fromberg explains. “But not everybody learns how to use that machinery well.”

How to do the perfect plank

You may think that the core muscles are only the ones in your stomach. In fact, the core is made up of all the muscles that connect the upper and lower body, including those of the stomach, lower back, hips and buttocks.
These muscles are essential for supporting the spine, aiding good posture, and almost every movement. By strengthening core muscles you will not only be on a fast track to a flatter stomach but will also improve the effectiveness of any exercise you do.
The plank is one of the best exercises because it tightens the deepest core muscles. It's a static exercise where you use your arms to raise yourself off the floor and hold the whole body straight and rigid, like a plank of wood.
You can do it anywhere, you don't need any equipment and it only takes a minute (literally). What's more, it is more effective than sit-ups and crunches because these work only the superficial abdominal muscles.
Below are three different plank positions that target different core muscles. The longer you can hold a plank, the stronger your core will become and you will quickly see an improvement.
Do not attempt the plank if you have suffered any lower back problems.

1. Basic plank

Start on elbows and knees, locking hands together. Straighten legs and raise your body so that you're supported by the balls of your feet, with feet hip-distance apart. Face the floor, being careful not to arch your back or stick your bottom in the air. Hold this position for 45 seconds to begin with, extending the time as you get stronger.
Plank

2. Side plank

Lie on your right side, propped up on your elbow. Let your left foot rest on top of your right, and then push up so that your body forms a perfect triangle with the floor. Don't let your left shoulder roll forward or back. Hold the position for as long as you can, then repeat on the other side.
Plank

3. Prone sky-dive

Always follow a basic or side plank with this move. Lie flat on the floor, face down, with your arms by your sides. Gently raise your chest off the floor until you can feel your lower back muscles start to work, simultaneously raising your arms up, palms facing upwards and with your thumbs furthest away from your body, pointing to the ceiling. Be careful not to clench your buttocks. Hold for 30 seconds.

How to Do a Plank: A Single Move for Stronger Abs

Want a single exercise move that will give you rock hard abs. Build a hard core with this deceptively simple exercise.

It's hard to believe the plank could provide such a great workout—until you try it. Keith Scott, A.T.C., C.S.C.S., a strength coach in Medford, N.J., recommends conquering the plank before attempting any heavy weight exercise.
Get into pushup position on the floor.
Now bend your elbows 90 degrees and rest your weight on your forearms. Your elbows should be directly beneath your shoulders, and your body should form a straight line from your head to your feet. Hold the position for as long as you can. Your goal should be to hold it for two minutes.
"The plank helps develop strength in the core, shoulders, arms, and glutes,"
says Scott, making it a great prerequisite for lifting heavy weights or playing intense sports. Even though you aren't moving or lifting weight, you have to constantly squeeze your abs to hold the position—most people can't last 30 seconds on their first attempt.
Ways to improve your plank time
The longer you can hold the plank, the more resilient your lower back will be to injury, and the better your abs will look once you burn the fat off them. Follow these tips for longer plank times.
  • Practice: Perform planks several times each day, trying to hold the position a little longer each time.
  • Use body-weight exercises: Pushups and pullups will improve your core strength.
  • Squat and deadlift: Guys who are strong in these specific lifts find planks are no problem.
HOLD IT
If you don't have the core strength yet to do a regular plank, you can build up to it by doing a bent-knee plank. If you can hold a plank for more than two minutes with ease, you can move on to these tougher variations.
  • Lift one leg up. By simply raising one leg in the air, you dramatically increase the demand on your core to fight your body's natural urge to rotate.
  • Lift one arm up. Again, your body will want to fall to one side. Don't let it!
  • Use a Swiss ball. Rest your forearms on the ball and you'll have to stabilize your body and stop the ball from rolling out from under you.

How to Kiss : Tutorial

This is an instructable on how to kiss. Kissing can be a hard thing to do until you get comfortable doing it, and while nothing can fully prepare you for a kiss, this how-to will explain some of the basics of kissing a partner and explore some simple kissing do's and don't's.

Note: I am by no means a kissing expert. The information in this instructable is based upon experience and some simple research on the subject.

Let's get started with just a simple kiss.

Step 1: Pre Kiss

The lead up to the kiss can actually be the most difficult part of kissing. Figuring out whether your partner is ready to kiss you or not can be a challenge of its own.

If you see one or a combination of these indicators, there is a good chance that your partner is thinking about kissing you.
  • eyes become soft and heavy
  • eye contact is made and sustained
  • head turns slightly
  • lips are licked or bitten
  • your partner makes physical contact with you beyond what seems appropriate for normal conversation (e.g. he or she brushes your hand, touches you on the shoulder or leg, or fidgets with an accessory)
  • easy conversation comes to a stop, but eye contact is not broken
  • your partner smiles in conjunction with any of the above behaviors
To give your partner the cue that you wish to kiss him or her, you can try one or a combination of these things.

  • soften your gaze by relaxing the muscles around your eyes, somewhat like smiling but without engaging your mouth
  • smile often, though
  • make eye contact and allow it to linger for a few moments longer than you normally would
  • find ways to subtly (but respectfully) touch your partner
If you think you are picking up some of these signs, but are still unsure if the person wants to be kissed then there is nothing wrong with just simply asking your partner if a kiss would be all right. Granted it breaks the mood a bit, and sensing the magic is always nicer than asking if it's there, but better to be sure your partner is on board for the kiss otherwise you might be heading for an embarrassing situation.

If you've assessed the situation, and it seems probable that a kiss is imminent, the next things to think about are timing and approach. The key to nailing the pre kiss is matching your partner's speed and intensity. The kiss is the first opportunity to physically connect with your partner, and so you want to meet him or her halfway.

Here are some steps you could follow as you go in for the kiss. Keep in mind that the kiss you share with someone is as unique as your relationship with that person, so follow your instincts and use the following as a rough guideline.

1. Establish a physical connection by placing your hands on your partner's body. Placement depends on the dynamic between you, you can softly touch the face, the back of the neck or the shoulders. Be gentle with your touch if this is the first contact you are making. Stay away from "high risk" zones on your partners body, as you just want to indicate that you are interested in kissing them, not give them a full body search.

2. Establish and maintain eye contact from this point on. The eyes are often a clear indicator if someone wants to be kissed, or is thinking about kissing you. Try to look at your partner with a deep, yet soft gaze. Use your eyes to send them a message that shows how you feel for your partner, e.g., "I care for you, I am on fire when I look at you, I want to kiss you."

3. As you lean in, you may want to tilt your body and head to accommodate your partner's positioning. One partner will have to make room for the other, or both partners can just slightly tilt heads in opposite directions. Basically you are just trying to avoid a nose collision as you get closer, so just pick a side to turn to and don't give it too much thought.

4. Gauge how quickly your partner is leaning in and try to meet at the halfway point between you, so neither person is overextended. Over/under extension can make one person feel like they are not getting met and are either too aggressive, or not engaged enough.

If you have come this far with your partner chances are you are going to kiss, or you have misread the entire situation and they are just leaning in to look at something stuck in your teeth.

If the first is true, then read on because it's time to pucker up and get on with THE KISS.

How Butt-Enhancing Exercise and Foods Are Connected Together & Help You Make Your Butt Bigger?

When you do butt enhancement exercises, you get microscopic tears in butt’s muscle fibers. The formation of these tears activates the healing phase (called muscle recover) in the buttocks and your body starts to synthesize protein in order to repair these tiny tears. This way, muscle recovery makes your butt bigger and stronger than before so the formation of tears won’t occur again. Exercise alone can be dangerous for your butt enhancing efforts. At this point, the role of a balanced diet comes into play. When your body is going through the healing phase in your buttock area, it needs a proper balance of proteins, fat and carbohydrates. Without this balance, your body won’t be able to repair itself. That’s the reason why it is important to consume the right foods with exercise if you really want to make your butt bigger.
