Nothing is overnight, and blogging is not a “get rich quick” scenario, but if you’re ready to leap into monetization with ads, here’s what you need to know.

1) Apply to Adsense

The first step is to apply to Google Adsense (or whatever advertising network you’re interested in). Something to note is that not all advertising agencies play nice with others. Some require a contact and a promise to not work with a competing network (for example, Mode Media and BlogHer). Google Adsense will want to see that you have a privacy policy, a neat navigation bar, quality relevant content, and that Google Analytics is installed and working correctly. Google can then price your ads based on your page views. When you’re accepted, be sure to follow the rules. Don’t click on your own ads, and only have three per page.

2) Get started with Adsense

Familiarize yourself with their policies, and you can use their Adsense Academy to learn more about how to start making money on your blog. The idea is that you are getting paid per click. The commission you earn will vary, although it’s safe to say that you will earn pennies per click. That might not seem like a lot, but if you have a high quality blog with relevant content and ads, it could turn into a payday. Just remember that a high quality blog with great content will bring traffic to your site.

You can choose display ads and customize the colors within Google Adsense. You can even create custom channels to have some control over the content that is displayed.

4) Don’t have too many ads for Adsense

Too many ads may discourage a reader from continuing on your website. Keep your blog clean and organized and weave ads into your content organically.

5) Diversify: Google Adsense

If your ad revenue doesn’t seem up to par after you’ve experimented with it over the course of a few months, don’t be afraid to try something new. Google Adsense is just one network and one way to monetize your website. You can add sponsored content, sidebar advertising, affiliate sales, or other advertising networks to your website.

Don’t forget to check your stats regularly so you can tweak your monetization strategy. You can download the Google Adsense app on your phone (with an iPhone or Android device), and you can check activity on the go. Google Adsense may not be my favorite way to earn money on my website, but it is just one avenue (of many!) that is worthwhile for a blogger to pursue.

If you put ads closer to the content, they are more likely to be seen and clicked on. It's a pretty simple idea, but it's one that a lot of websites mess up over and over again. So, you have to have a good ad placement near the content. Some sites will put their main ad block inside the first paragraph of an article and that can work really well if it makes sense for your design. Also a large leaderboard ad at the top of the page can work well. 

Also, Google AdSense limits you to three ads. If you want to maximize your earnings you are going to have the most success focusing on having just one ad unit and getting the best placement for that ad on your site. Then, consider a second, but many times you'll make more by having just one or two ads, than if you try and put ads all over your site.

If you don’t have your own blog, you can still make money by writing on the Internet. However, if you’re just getting started, you’re going to have to start writing for websites that pay bottom-dollar for articles. One such site is Demand Studios (now known as StudioD).


You can apply here, and most likely get accepted as an author, but you’ll need to wade through long lists of really weird and surreal topics to find one that you can even figure out how to write about. One former Demand Studios author explained the experience as follows:

“I immediately began searching in their ‘Find Assignments’ section, looking for a topic that would be appropriate for me to write about. That was my first reality check. This section can be quite laughable, to put it nicely. • The Amazon Associates Program is prohibited in some states. However, Skimlinks is a way around this that I have mentioned on this blog several times in the past.

I personally love the Amazon affiliate program. My conversion rate is far higher than what I see for the majority of the programs I promote. This likely has much to do with Amazon being a familiar name in the online world. I’m sure the fact that they take PayPal doesn’t hurt.
I have also found that people not only purchase things other than what you promoted in most cases, they often purchase more than one item. Amazon usually has free shipping on orders over $35. This works in your favor. As a shopper, if I have $29 worth of items in my cart and my options are receive $29 worth of stuff and pay $6 in shipping or find another $6 item that I want and get free shipping, I’m finding another small item to add to my purchase.

10 Essential Tips For Long Term Blogging Career

Blogging is something you should do as a hobby as oppose to a career, until you are fully dedicated to it and have guts &  knowledge to do something extraordinary through your blog, blogging takes time to start making you money so if you are doing it for quick money then I’ll suggest you to do freelancing instead.
There are 100s of rules you should follow to become a successful blogger but I have listed the Top 10 of them, and if you ignore any of them then you are going to fail, so do it and do it right.

#1. Plan your blog posts

This means that you should create an outline (at least) for your blog posts. You should do this so that your blog structure remains consistent throughout your blog, and so that you cover all of the points you were planning on covering. You will also find that it makes writing your blog posts easier, quicker and helps to a create more balanced writing style.

#2. Do not post on all your favorite topics right away

This is a common “newbie” mistake. They will come into blogging full of ideas and topics that they want to write about, and they will use up all of their best stuff within the first few months. After that they will be scratching around for ideas and will probably get bored. Your best bet is to space out your topics and write larger and more in-depth articles on your topics. You then break them up, create new introductions for each and post them as separate blog posts.

#3. Keep it up and do not quit

Most blogs start with a big flurry of enthusiasm and then within six months the blogger has given up or only blogs once per month. Most blogs do not make it to the two year mark, which is the reason why so many of the blogs you see these days do not have hundreds and hundreds of blog posts on them (unless they allow guest blog posting). So, the first piece of advice you should take is to keep it up, and make a vow to yourself that you are not going to quit after a few weeks.

#4. You only need to post once per week

A lot of people start out and they have lots of topics they want to cover. So they will post twice per week, or three times per week if they are over enthusiastic. But, this is a frequency that is difficult to keep up. If you do decide to keep it up then you are going to struggle to create high quality content. And, if you do not keep it up then what was the point of making frequent posts during the early months? The best frequency is once per week, as most people expect that anyway.

#5. Learn that loyal viewers make up most of your traffic

New bloggers and moronic web marketers think that blogging traffic is made up of new viewers, but it is not. New viewers are not as abundant as you think. It is loyal viewers that come back every week that make up most of your blog traffic. You must tend to them instead of constantly trying to chase new viewers.

#6. Install an RSS feed into your blog

This is a vital tool if you want to retain your loyal viewers. They remind people that your blog still exists, they tell people when your blog is posted and they give people a link to your blog. It is the perfect tool for retaining your blog readers.

#7. Plan the blog posts of the next 3 months

This strategy will help you to avoid the occasional bout of writers block. Writers block occurs as a sort of biological process. There will come days when you simply cannot think of anything to write. If this happens on the week that you are supposed to write your blog post then you are going to be in trouble. If you have already planned the topics and created a bit of an outline for the next three months, then you will have to suffer three months of writers block before you have any trouble.

#8. Use a scheduling tool to post your blog posts

This is common sense because it means that your blog posts will be issued at the same time every week, and it means that you do not have to manually upload your posts when the time comes. It also allows you to get a few weeks ahead of yourself for just in case you cannot write for a few weeks or if you want to take a break from blogging.

#9. Have the scheduling tool update your RSS feed too

Again, this is going to save you the trouble of doing it yourself, which will mean that this very important job is not forgotten. Do not write too much on your RSS feed page. A single sentence describing your blog post is enough, as you do not want to scare off your reader before he or she has even seen the blog post.
And if you are using WordPress as your blogging platform then you can be worry free as WordPress updates the RSS automatically everytime you publish a new article on your blog.

#10. Build relationship with niche bloggers

This is very important that you are in touch with the other bloggers via social media or email (if possible), for that you can start with sharing your views with them about their blog, can give ideas for their blog, write guest posts regularly on their blogs.
So, finally if you follow all the above tips carefully throughout your blogging then no one can stop you from becoming a successful blogger, and making lots of money through blogging too.

For the purpose of the remainder of this tutorial, we’ll assume that you have an affiliate account with DreamHost and that you have used your credentials to log in to the DreamHost panel.

How to create a DreamHost discount code for your blog readers

DreamHost’s affiliate program allows you to create a promo code which you can offer to your readers so that they can in turn get a discount when purchasing DreamHost. You can generate a discount of up to $97 for your readers. I suggest, however, that you create your discount coupon for $50 maximum, as this will help you to make some money when your readers use the discount as well.
Once you are inside the panel, click on Billing & account > Affiliates. Click on “Create Your Own Promo Codes!” at the bottom of the page.


You will also be able to see all the promo codes that you have created to date.




I suggest that you create a promo code with a meaningful name. In the past, I  have created SBD50 coupon code for SolutionsBD, and other similar memorable names for other blogs. You will want to use a name that is easily recalled, and that is related to your brand.
You have the option to add extra goodies such as an additional domain name, private IP and so on. Remember, though, that these would decrease your affiliate income.
DreamHost gives you a maximum of $97 commission on every sale. So for example, if you are giving a discount of $50 for every sale, you will be making $47 on each sale. Again, I generally suggest creating a promo code for a $50 discount.
Once you have entered your information into all of the required field, click on “Create this promo code now”. You will see the message “promo code successfully generated”, or if that promo code name already exists, you will be asked to select a different code name.

Linking the promo code to your affiliate link:

When you log in to your DreamHost panel and click on the  rewards tab, you will see your affiliate link.


In this case, my affiliate link is http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?2160047
Now all I need to do is add my promo code after my affiliate link. So, for example, to link my SML50 promo code, which offers a $50 discount, I will use this link:
http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?2160047|SBD50
So now, whenever a user signs up using this promo code, he will get a $50 discount on hosting.
In short, all you need to do is to simply add your promo code after your affiliate link.

Why a $50 promo code?

Some time back I created a DreamHost $97 discount code that is the maximum discount one can offer. Many SolutionsBD readers signed up for DreamHost using that code (SBD97) to get a $97 discount, but they received only a $50 discount.
DreamHost’s customer service representatives noted that for certain regions, the maximum possible discount is $50. However, for some reason DreamHost is not revealing which countries are eligible for the $97 discount and which countries are not.

Monetizing a Site Through AdSense

There is a lot of misconception about Google AdSense; many marketers see it as one of the most rudimentary ways to monetize your site. As such many markets prefer to build affiliate sites, spend an age writing sales driven content, building email lists to try and sell on the back end, but the most important aspect of getting the sale is completely taking out of their hands, once you send traffic to the merchant they are the ones you have to rely on to push your traffic through their checkout page. If the merchant you are promoting has a poor sales funnel you will suffer.
This is not the case with AdSense, once you get the click then your job is done and your money is in the bank of Google.
When you build a site around AdSense in many ways it’s different to that of an affiliate site.  The perfect traffic for an AdSense site is click happy information hungry searchers. This is not the case for an affiliate site, most affiliates will target traffic that are close to making a purchase and hopefully they are just looking for some final reassurances that the product they plan to buy will meet their needs. These typical searches can include “reviews” “best price” or one of favourites is “warranty” for instance how long is the warranty on a Sony camcorder. As you can imagine these keywords get a tiny amount of searches every month but they are super targeted and can lead to the highest conversions.
If you target these types of searches with an AdSense site you may not get enough traffic to make the site pay and as the searchers have a very specific goal you will often find that they are unwilling to click on your ad.

Choosing your keywords and finding a click happy market

The most important thing to remember about an AdSense site is that it’s a numbers game, in every part of it you want to have the numbers on your side, ideally the more the better.
Keeping the numbers on your side starts with the keyword research, you want to try and find between 5 and 10 possible candidates.  The same rules apply as always, use Google’s keyword tool, try and find keywords with a minimum of 2500 searches and months, with a CPC of at least .50 cents ( remember this is split between you again Google, 60:40 in your favour). If you have tools like Market Samurai or Micro Niche finder, use them! they will make this process so much easier

Now to find if any of these keywords have click happy searchers

Knowing that you are entering a market that has potential to be profitable for you is a great incentive to drive on and make it work. To try and take as much guess work out of this as possible you will need to do quite a lot of ground work. You may be putting a lot of work in now with little reward, but it’s better to do it now than to spend 6 months working on a site with little or nothing to show at the end.
The best way I have found to test the potential of a new niche is to write an article on all of your chosen keywords and submit them to ezinearticles. (Note: as we have not registered any domains yet, you will need to link your biobox to some other site), It may sound strange to be doing this but there is method in the madness and there are 2 good reasons, firstly ezinearticles has the ability to rank highly for your keyword, giving you an indication of how tough the competition is and after about a month you will have an idea of which keyword has the best potential. Just look for the article that has the highest CTR (click through rate).  Because they have clicked your link, they are hungry to learn more and are willing to click on your link.

Building Your Site

Now it’s back to the numbers game, you need as many articles as possible for your new site, more articles means more searchers which will mean more clicks. Each article you write should back up the main theme of your site but focus on a slightly different key phrase.
Another important aspect of the articles you write is to try and build in some relative or related keywords into each article, doing this will give you a better chance of attracting more long tail searches. If your site is about remote control helicopters, try to work in some brand names, “how to fix” or any keywords that would make sense, a lot of information based searches are based around asking a question like “how do I fix my broken Helicopter” if you can build this into your copy you will have a great chance of ranking for these types of searches. In most cases when you write the article you will be doing this anyway, this technique is commonly known as LSI or latent semantic indexing.
The length of the article will really depend on your own preferences but I prefer to write pretty meaty articles, anything up to 1500 words. I do this for 2 reasons, I can easily target a lot more potential long tails and I can hit the reader with 3 different ad boxes as they scroll down the page.  Getting ads clicked in the very top ad box will usually yield the biggest CPC, but if you miss your chance here, hitting them a second and third time will treble your chances of getting your ad clicked.

Link building

The same rules apply here, but there is one thing I have found with my AdSense sites and that is they can attract natural links more easily. I think in part it’s because of the articles I write help to answer a question but also, AdSense sites are less conspicuous compared to affiliates sites and people are more willing to link to them.
AdSense is really underrated as a viable way to monetize your site, I believe many people turn to it as a last option when all their affiliate offers fail and because the site was not built for AdSense most times these sites will under preform leaving the owner bemused with the miserable amount of money they are making.
